Umno Rep Not Pulling Support For Pas Led Kedah Govt
Talk on social media is that two Umno representatives will quit the party to join opposition parties. (Bernama pic)ALOR SETAR: An Umno representative in the Kedah assembly has dismissed claims that she and her colleague will be withdrawing support for the PAS-led state government.
Norsabrina Mohd Noor.This was following rumours swirling on social media that the two — Norsabrina Mohd Noor and Suraya Yaacob — would quit Umno to join unidentified opposition parties.
Norsabrina, the assembly member for Bandar Baharu, said she had never thought of quitting the government bench and had no plans to wade into controversy and only wanted to focus on her job.
She said she and Sungai Tiang assembly member Suraya had never spoken about pulling support for the menteri besar at all. “It never cropped up. We want to focus on developing Kedah,” she was quoted by Astro Awani as saying.
PAS has 15 seats in the 36-member Kedah assembly, Bersatu has six and Umno two, giving Perikatan Nasional 23 seats for a simple majority of 13.
Suraya Yaacob.PKR and Amanah have five and four seats, respectively, while DAP and Pejuang have two seats each.
Earlier, menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor also flatly denied claims that four assembly members would be retracting support for his government.
Norsabrina and Sanusi both spoke on the sidelines of a signing ceremony between two companies and the state government for the planned new airport in Kulim.
POS Aviation has been appointed to run cargo operations at the airport while KLIA College will supply workers at the larger Kulim Aerotropolis. - FMT
