Pas Leader Umno Has Forgotten Our Help Now Lusting For Power
A PAS Ulama leader lamented that Umno has fallen back to its old ways of lusting for power after scoring a series of major political victories, including successfully installing its own prime minister and winning a landslide victory in the Malacca polls.
PAS Ulama committee member Mokhtar Senik (above) added that Umno has seemingly forgotten about the by-elections it won with PAS' assistance when Pakatan Harapan was in power from 2018 to 2020.
"Umno appears to be once again possessed by their greed for power and lust for electoral seats.
"There is no cure for Umno except for defeat," he said on Facebook today.
PAS has expressed frustration that Umno is only willing to offer four out of 56 seats in Johor if they were to form an electoral pact.
Mokhtar said Umno appeared bent on gaining dominance on its own.
In Umno's latest manoeuvring, it triggered the Johor polls in an apparent attempt to oust its Perikatan Nasional (PN) partners from the state government so BN can govern alone.
Don't allow Umno to become 'too strong'
Weighing into Umno's revival, Mokhtar said the party can be aided but should never be allowed a full recovery.
"To me, Umno can be carried and assisted to become strong but should not be treated to become too strong.
"Because when Umno becomes too strong, they start to forget themselves," he added.
A painting featuring Muafakat Nasional leadersMokhtar said Umno's behaviour proved his point. He noted that Umno is now actively trying to sever ties with PAS in Kelantan, Terengganu and Johor.
He added that cooperation only appeared to be working in Selangor, Perlis and Pahang.
A sincere discussion between Umno, PAS and Bersatu is needed, Mokhtar said, if they are committed to the struggle for race, religion and country. Bersatu and PAS are part of PN.
There cannot be a situation where one of the parties wished to be the big brother, he added.
"No party should try to dominate in a coalition. Any party that feels it is bigger than the other parties will lead to the break up of the coalition," he said.
Last Saturday, Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad sought the dissolution of the state assembly.
Umno's partners Bersatu and PAS complained that the decision was made unilaterally.
The Election Commission will meet on Feb 9 to announce the nomination and polling dates for the Johor polls. - Mkini
