SEPANG: United States President Donald Trump departed from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 10.06am on Monday (Oct 27 after attending the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur.
The departure with his official aircraft, the Air Force One, marked the conclusion of Trump's two-day visit to Malaysia, his first to the country since returning to office earlier this year, as part of his multi-nation Asia tour.
The US President was seen off by Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Earlier, Trump was sent off by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Saifuddin and representatives from the United States Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, including US Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard D. Kagan, at his hotel in the capital.
On the sidelines of the Summit, Trump and Anwar witnessed the signing of the KL Peace Accord between Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, marking a formal step towards ending decades of border disputes between the two neighbours.
The agreement, brokered under Malaysia's chairmanship of Asean 2025, also established an Asean Observer Team to monitor peace efforts and ensure long-term stability in the border regions.
The US President commended Anwar for his "courage and historic role" in facilitating the accord, describing him as "a great and historic figure" who helped bring both sides together through dialogue and diplomacy.
In addition, Trump held a bilateral meeting with Anwar, during which both leaders signed the Malaysia-US Reciprocal Trade Agreement and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, aimed at strengthening cooperation in technology, energy, and critical minerals.
The signing ceremony featured a light-hearted moment when Anwar jokingly referred to Trump's pen as the "White House pen," prompting laughter and reflecting the warm rapport between both leaders.
During his visit, Trump also attended the 13th Asean-US Summit where he reaffirmed Washington's full commitment to Southeast Asia, pledging an enduring partnership under what he described as the "golden age of America."
He said the United States remained dedicated to advancing a free, open and thriving Indo-Pacific and to deepening cooperation with Asean nations in trade, investment and regional security.
"My message to the nations of Southeast Asia is that the United States is with you 100 per cent, and we intend to be a strong partner and friend for many generations to come," Trump said in his address at the Summit.
The President also praised Malaysia's leadership under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, noting that his visit had allowed him to witness first-hand the country's achievements and progress.
"It has really been an amazing experience. I've only been here for a day, but the Prime Minister made sure I saw everything, every single thing," he said, recalling their conversation during their journey in "The Beast", the presidential car specially flown in for the visit.
Trump later described his maiden Asian tour as "an interesting time," saying that the new trade agreements signed with Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand could yield significant economic benefits for regional economies.
He said the United States looked forward to expanding collaboration in artificial intelligence, green technology and advanced manufacturing, highlighting Asean's vital role in global growth and supply chains.
Trump's next stop will be Japan, before proceeding to South Korea to attend the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, where he is expected to meet with China President Xi Jinping, before concluding his Asia tour. - Bernama
