Tangkapazambaki Protest Kicks Off Under Close Scrutiny By Cops

The growing crowd of protesters and the large media presence at the Bangsar LRT station this morning.KUALA LUMPUR: Chants of “Hidup Rakyat! Tangkap Azam Baki!” echoed across the Bangsar LRT station as the first few protesters at the #TangkapAzamBaki protest made their voices heard.
Several protesters were seen carrying placards stating “Lawan” and “Lawan Korupsi”. Others were also seen carrying helmets.
The protesters have also started their march, heading out of the LRT station, and walking along Jalan Bangsar towards Jalan Travers, presumably on their way to Dataran Merdeka.
The police are maintaining their distance but at the same time keeping a close eye, taking down details and snapping photos of the protesters.
Earlier, police told the protesters to always maintain physical distancing when they gathered at the station.
While the police have maintained a distance from the protesters, they were seen noting their particulars and taking their photos.
PKR Youth leader and former student activist Adam Adli led the chants.Shortly after 11am, the federal reserve unit (FRU) arrived, armed with water cannons.
According to the police, the FRU are just there on standby as per the usual protocol during any rally.
Meanwhile, a representative from the Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ) told FMT that there were reports of protesters being “harassed” after disembarking from the Bangsar LRT station, with the police warning them of arrests if they attended the protest.
PKR Youth leader Ahmad Syukri Razab (red hat) iss among those leading the march.Despite prior police warnings not to gather, the protesters have banded together under the LRT station to demand the arrest of Azam Baki, the embattled Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner who has been the subject of controversy over the purchase of shares in public-listed companies.
The protest organisers also want the MACC to be placed under the purview of Parliament. - FMT
