Syndicate At Klia Thanos Transferred To Another Unit Source Says
An immigration officer known as “Thanos”, alleged to be involved in the “fly syndicate” and “phantom travels”, has been transferred to another unit.
According to a source from the Immigration Department, “Thanos” was transferred from managing immigration affairs at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA2) to another unit involving desk duties.
“I consider this a ‘punishment’ for him,” the source told Malaysiakini, adding that “Thanos” started working at the new unit last week.
Elaborating, the source said the new job would require “Thanos” to be desk-bound most of the time, resulting in him having little chance of continuing with syndicate activities.
ADSThe “fly syndicate” refers to the falsification of immigration status, where officials clear the records of foreigners who stay in Malaysia beyond their visa limit or who are blacklisted.
As for “phantom travels”, it involves civil servants travelling abroad without having their travel records updated in the immigration system.
Unrepentant ‘Thanos’
Another source from KLIA told Malaysiakini that “Thanos” has not stopped being involved in the “fly syndicate” despite being exposed by the media.
“I’m not sure if he was investigated, but what I know is that after Malaysiakini exposed his syndicate, he did not come to work for nearly two weeks.

WhatsApp messages showing how the ‘phantom travels’ syndicate operates at KLIA2“And when he reported back to work, he continued with the ‘fly syndicate’,” the source added.
On July 19, an officer from the Border Control and Protection Agency lodged a police report in regard to the “fly syndicate” involving a Chinese national.
According to the report lodged at the KLIA2 police station, the Chinese national’s passport had no record indicating his entry into Malaysia.
However, other records showed that the man entered Malaysia on July 10 and stayed for two months, beyond the visa limitation.
“I can say ‘Thanos’ still acts as a ‘runner’ for the syndicate,” alleged a syndicate agent.
Malaysiakini has contacted the border agency and “Thanos” for comments. - Mkini
