Stop Politicking Focus On Rakyat And Covid 19 Tmj Tells Politicians
Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim says politicians should put aside differences and carry out their mandated responsibilities. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Johor Crown Prince, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has called for a political ceasefire and for politicians to focus on tackling the health and economic crisis.
In a Facebook post, Tunku Ismail, fondly known as TMJ, said now was not the time for politicking, adding that the health crisis was at an “alarming level”.
The elected representatives, he said, should carry out their mandated responsibilities and do their best to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Put aside all political differences, have a political ceasefire for the time being and focus entirely on the rakyat.
“Now is the time to serve and help the rakyat,” he wrote.
Tunku Ismail’s post comes hours after the country reported over 11,000 Covid-19 cases, the highest to date, and 125 deaths in the past 24 hours.
Social media users have since taken the government to task over the surge, mainly complaining about the lockdown that they have had to endure since June 1.
Tunku Ismail’s post also comes in the wake of calls by Umno and Pakatan Harapan for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to resign over his administration’s failure to contain the pandemic.
Umno had last week announced it was retracting its support for Muhyiddin.
Earlier today, Sabah-based Warisan and Pejuang, a party founded by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, dismissed a report by a portal that they will work with the Perikatan Nasional-led (PN) government. - FMT
