Have Appointments For Covid 19 Assessment Najib Tells Govt
Najib Razak said residents will feel angry if Covid-19 patients heading to CACs keep lining up outside their homes as the health ministry has said the new variant is airborne and can infect people in just 15 seconds. (Bernama pic)KOTA KINABALU: Former prime minister Najib Razak has told the government to implement an appointment system for Covid-19 assessment centre (CAC) visits to avoid the long queues of people.
He said there was no reason why the system, which is used for appointments at vaccination centres, cannot be applied to patients needing attention at the CACs so that they do not have to stand for hours waiting for their turns.
Earlier this week, it was reported that CACs in the Klang Valley were packed with people, leading to long queues spilling into nearby residential areas.
“The government said the thousands of people infected with Covid-19, who were queuing up outside peoples’ homes to go to the CACs, were not a risk.
“They say the risk of infection is minimal as they are queuing up outdoors, where the virus density is low and air circulation is good. They say that’s why the CAC at Dewan Taman Sri Andalas is safe.
“But on the same day, the health director-general said the new variant is airborne and can infect people in just 15 seconds.
“So wouldn’t the nearby residents feel uncomfortable and angry if the patients keep lining up outside their homes?” Najib asked in his Facebook posting today.
The former prime minister said it made no sense to allow persons going for the Covid-test to queue up outside other’s homes.
Following media reports on the long queues, the health ministry said on Thursday that virtual CACs would be set up to manage asymptomatic patients and reduce the queues.
The ministry’s Klang Valley task force chief Dr Chong Chee Kheong said these virtual CACs would cater to Category 1 and 2 patients.
He said monitoring would be done virtually without the person having to be present at a CAC, adding a digital home surveillance order (HSO) would be issued through the MySejahtera app. - FMT
