State Polls Focus On Winning People S Hearts Not Money Zahid
Ahead of the upcoming six state elections, BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged all members from component parties to not worry about money and focus on winning the people's hearts.
The deputy prime minister, however, was quick to remind members that money is no guarantee of a victory, as proven by Umno's performance in GE15.
"Don’t worry about money…not everything is about money.
"In the last general election, Umno had money yet we still lost. This is about how we can work collectively to win the people's hearts, whether they are our party members or not," he said.
The Umno president was reported to have said this in a speech during the launch of the Madani government's state-level Unity Convention 2023 in Alor Setar, Kedah, today.
"That (collective spirit) is a factor for success.
"These upcoming state elections would be the best chance because this is a one-time opportunity that will not come again," said Zahid as quoted by Malay-daily Utusan Malaysia.
The National Unity Convention 2023 held at Umno's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur last Sunday saw thousands of leaders and members from all four coalitions and 19 parties that made up the Madani government coming up with five joint commitments towards a better Malaysia.
Moving forward, Zahid said BN and Pakatan Harapan should stop dwelling in nostalgia and focus on their common grounds to strengthen respective parties in the upcoming state polls.
"In the past it was 'lawan tetap lawan' (keep on fighting) but now it is 'lawan jadi kawan' (foes have become friends).
"Enough with the nostalgia and rivalries, now we are looking for common grounds," he said.
'Don't focus on poster boys'
Zahid stressed that all parties should strive to prove their individual commitments to win rather than focus on naming a potential menteri besar candidate or "poster boy".
"Forget about the poster boy, think about how to win first, like in Kedah, to get 19 seats.
"Think about the 'poster boy' after we have won. Besides, that is not our right but it is in the hands of the sultan," said Zahid.
Kedah Umno chief Mahdzir KhalidLast week, Kedah Umno chief Mahdzir Khalid said BN and Harapan will be using their respective logos in the upcoming state election in Kedah.
Mahdzir also said BN and Harapan have yet to come up with their candidate for the Kedah menteri besar position. - Mkini
