Special Task Force Set Up To Probe Mykad Forgery Syndicates

The Home Ministry will continue efforts to trace and take action against those behind MyKad forgery syndicates.
Its minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the ministry, through the National Registration Department (NRD), will work together with police under an operation code-named Ops Biru to stem the illegal activity.
“A special task force has been set up to investigate such cases, and we will not protect nor compromise with anyone found to be behind these illegal operations,” he said on Saturday (May 2).
Hamzah said this in response to the discovery of a website that claimed to offer fake MyKads.
He said the NRD has lodged a police report over the website, adding that police would launch an investigation into the matter soon.
“This crime has sullied the good name of the NRD,” he said.
He added that the website used old MyKad pictures connected to a MyKad forgery case in Penang last year.
“Police have already arrested those behind that syndicate and the case is now undergoing court proceedings,” he said.
He also said authorities had not identified new evidence for any new forgery cases.
Following the discovery of the website, he said the NRD was always working to find new ways to improve security features on the MyKad.
He also said the department would continue to enhance standard operating procedures to create better processes for document review and approval while improving monitoring processes within the department’s systems.
He also reminded Malaysians to immediately report any syndicate or group claiming to offer fake MyKads to the ministry, police or the NRD.
