Rina Harun To Probe Claims That Aid Not Reaching Opposition Mps

NGOs and well-wishers have been distributing food to those who need it during the MCO period.PETALING JAYA: Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rina Harun today said she will look into claims that welfare aid meant for families affected by the movement control order (MCO) is not reaching opposition MPs
Earlier today, Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh questioned why the Welfare Department (JKM) had distributed aid to the Segambut divisions of Umno and PPBM when she was told earlier that there weren’t enough food baskets to go around
When contacted by FMT, Rina said the ministry had received many applications from various parties, adding that there were many concerned Malaysians who were looking out for the welfare of those in need
“About the complaint (by Yeoh), I will check on it,” she said
Yeoh, the former deputy women, family and community development minister, said she had requested for 750 additional food baskets from JKM on April 18 after initially receiving 250 baskets on April 13
She said JKM had informed her that the high demand meant there was an insufficient supply of food baskets, adding that opposition MPs had to look for donors in a short span of time
“Oddly enough, look at these pictures. Umno and Segambut PPBM received food baskets from JKM while the MP didn’t
“These food baskets are not funded by the minister or her political party. These baskets are bought with the people’s money and should not be used to promote a political agenda,” Yeoh said in a Facebook post today
She added that she would not stop questioning the actions of the current minister as families were starving as aid had yet to reach them
Yeoh had previously asked if the ministry was being selective in distributing the 1,000 food baskets promised to help households cope with the restrictions under the movement control order (MCO)
She also said there were still some opposition MPs who had yet to receive food baskets for distribution to the poor in their areas. - FMT
