Source Mic S Pn U Turn Due To Bersatu S Azmin Wan Fahysal
Among the alleged reasons for MIC’s decision to pull out of Perikatan Nasional was its dissatisfaction with Bersatu’s Mohamed Azmin Ali
According to a high-ranking MIC source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the decision was expedited by Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal’s call for vernacular schools to be phased out
Speaking to Malaysiakini, the source alleged that BN component parties were unhappy with Azmin’s attempts to assert “control” in PN
“Specifically, MIC can’t shake hands with Azmin. He always tries to control others. And abandons other friends in the PN pact
“For example, recently the Housing and Local Government Ministry planned to set up 200 Penggerak Komuniti Tempatan committees (JKPT). The proposed salary was RM2,000 (for each committee member)
“As far as we know, the JKPT names were submitted to the ministry but not a single one was given to MIC. What sort of pact is this?” he questioned
Malaysiakini has contacted the ministry for comment
Can’t Azmin supporters join MIC, MCA?Elaborating, the source said Bersatu’s plan for a non-Malay and non-bumiputera wing also did not sit well with MIC
Even before the new chapter was set up, the source pointed to how the international trade and industry senior minister’s supporters were already competing against BN component parties for positions
“They say PN is a pact between all of us so why can’t Azmin’s non-Malay supporters join MIC or other parties instead of Bersatu
“Every time when there are positions for the Chinese and Indian communities, this group will pressure for it to be given to them. In the end, MIC and MCA are sidelined
“When there were local council seat allocations in Kedah, Umno was sidelined by this group. It is not impossible for MIC to resign from the four local council member positions it holds in Kedah right now,” the source warned
Fahysal could cost us votesAfter previously agreeing to join PN, MIC changed its mind after Umno decided to snub the new coalition
Its about-turn was allegedly cemented by Wan Fahysal’s recent controversial comments
According to the source, the party initially intended to inform the Registrar of Societies (ROS) about its withdrawal from PN after tomorrow’s Slim by-election polling day
“However, we sent the letter to ROS on Aug 27, one day after the youth and sports deputy minister made that statement
“This is proof that MIC is dissatisfied with Bersatu
“We perceive Wan Fayhsal’s statement as a disturbance of BN’s effort to win non-Malay votes in the Slim by-election,” the source explained
The Perak state seat of Slim has a considerable 23 percent non-Malay electorate where 13 percent are Indian voters and 10 percent are Chinese voters
Triggered by the death of incumbent Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib, tomorrow will see BN’s Mohd Zaidi Aziz face-off two independent candidates - Amir Khusyairi Mohd Tanusi and S Santharasekaran
Amir Khusyairi is backed by the newly formed Bersatu offshoot, Pejuang. - Mkini
