Sarawak Leaders Hail Formation Of Bn Pn Gps Presidential Council
PBB’s Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and SUPP’s Sebastian Ling say the presidential council of ruling parties is a good idea.KUCHING: State leaders have welcomed the formation of a presidential council comprising parties in the federal government, including Gabunan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
PBB vice-president Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the council would enable the leaders of each party to discuss and resolve critical issues affecting the country.
“Perikatan Nasional (PN) is a loose coalition, hence it is good to have such a platform where we can sit down together and decide on how to move forward together,” he told reporters today.
Last night, Perikatan Nasional (PN), Barisan Nasional (BN) and GPS agreed to form a presidential council, comprising the leaders of each party.
Karim said he was not present at the meeting with Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin but was informed that there was no formal charter or any agreement being signed.
“So, for me, it is a good thing as long as we don’t backstab each other,” said the state tourism minister.
Meanwhile, SUPP secretary-general Sebastian Ting said the presidential council will allow party leaders who are not in the federal Cabinet to take part in meetings and discussions as well.
“This will ensure political stability and help us to focus on the people and economy who have been suffering from Covid-19.
“We are talking about bread-and-butter issues. We need a stable government to resolve them,” he said. - FMT
