Rosmah S Corruption Trial Verdict Set For July 7
The Kuala Lumpur High Court has set July 7 to deliver its verdict on the corruption trial involving Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former premier Najib Abdul Razak.
Rosmah is being tried for soliciting RM187.5 million in bribes and receiving RM6.5 million from Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director Saidi Abang Samsuddin.
She was alleged to have received the money through her then assistant Rizal Mansor.
The bribe was in relation to Rosmah's alleged role in helping Jepak Holdings win an RM1.25 billion contract to supply electricity to rural schools in Sarawak.
Star witnesses
Rizal and former education minister Mahdzir Khalid were star witnesses in the trial.
Rizal testified that he carried RM5 million in two luggage bags to Seri Perdana - the prime minister's official residence in Putrajaya.
The money - in RM100 notes, wrapped in RM100,00 bundles - came from Saidi in 2016.
The court also heard that Mahdzir issued an instruction to amend the letter of award to Jepak Holdings by removing Clause 11 which stipulated that the government had the right to terminate the contract at any time.
Rosmah's defence saw her claiming that the prosecution witnesses were conspiring against her.
Her defence saw only two witnesses being called - Rosmah and former director of the First Lady of Malaysia divisionn Siti Azizah Sheikh Abod.
If found guilty, Rosmah can be jailed up to 20 years and fined up to five times the amount of the bribe.
Her husband Najib Abdul Razak was sentenced in July 2020 to 12 years in jail and fined RM210 million for money laundering and other wrongdoings involving SRC International Sdn Bhd.
Najib is appealing in the Federal Court. - Mkini
