Report Pn Gov T Asked Exec Who Spoke Up On 1mdb To Leave Mpob
The Perikatan Nasional government has reportedly asked Bakke Mohd Salleh, who is known to be among the few people within 1MDB who spoke up before it devolved into a global scandal, to resign as the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) chairperson
The Straits Times reported that Bakke (above) had been asked to vacate the post which he was appointed to by the previous Pakatan Harapan government in July 2018
Bakke had resigned from the 1MDB board after its management allowed US$700 million to be diverted to Good Star Ltd, a company controlled by businessperson Low Taek Jho in 2009. The report said the move, and several more attempts by the PN government to assert its own appointments are aimed at appeasing supporters
"They were necessary to appease supporters from a wide range of political bases whose factions were not rewarded with ministerial posts," it said
The report pointed out that the PN government has also appointed Mohammed Azlan Hashim to the Khazanah Nasional Berhad Board
Azlan was part of the Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP) investment panel which recommended the approval of RM4 billion in loans to 1MDB's then subsidiary SRC International Sdn Bhd in 2011 and 2012, which were then allegedly misappropriated
The report, citing sources, also said Khazanah Research Institute (KRI) chairperson Nungsari Ahmad Radhi (photo) has been told to leave the think tank, which is funded by Khazanah
This is after he penned an open letter with other economist calling for decisive action in the Covid-19 pandemic. The report said Nungsari is expected to be replaced by former finance minister Nor Mohamed Yakcop
The PN government had also sacked Mara chairperson Hasnita Hashim and other professionals on the board. Hasnita is the Maybank Asset Management Group chairperson and Maybank group board member
Other Mara council members dismissed were Jamelah Jamaluddin, Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel Tengku Ariff, Nungsari Ahmad Radhi, Ameer Ali Mydin, Syed Tamim Ansari Syed Mohamed, Zakri Mohd Khir and Ahmad Baslan Che Kassim. - Mkini
