Probe Pas Man For Racial Remarks On Perak Sultan Case Dap Youth Chapters
Penang and Negeri Sembilan DAP Youth have urged the authorities to investigate the Perak PAS Youth chief over his erroneous remarks on the race of a suspect in an incident involving the Perak sultan.
This came after Hafez Sabri falsely claimed on Facebook that the suspect arrested for storming towards Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah on stage at a state-level National Day celebration yesterday was Chinese.
In separate statements today, both DAP Youth state chapters said they had lodged police reports against Hafez (above), calling for an investigation under Section 505 of the Penal Code over his statement that may cause fear, public disorder, or threaten racial harmony.
They also want him investigated under Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 for allegedly using network facilities to spread false or offensive content.
ADS“We strongly condemn Manjoi assemblyperson’s barbaric and irresponsible actions (for) spreading racial slander without fact-checking (and) hastily accusing the woman in question of being ‘Chinese’, when the official report clearly states she is Malay with mental health problems.
“This is not just a mistake (but) a form of disgusting politics deliberately designed to fan racial hatred (when) racist politics is treason to the nation.
“We demand him to apologise formally and openly for his remarks as well as for PAS to state their official stance (in this issue),” said Penang DAP Youth.
It added that spreading racial slander on Independence Day is an insult to national unity, while manipulating incidents involving royal institutions' security is a betrayal of the constitutional monarch.
It further described Hafez’s use of race for political gain as a cowardly act that endangers national harmony, urging him instead to demonstrate morality, knowledge and responsibility, befitting an assemblyperson and an Islamic studies graduate.
‘Unite people, not sow hatred’
Negeri Sembilan DAP Youth said Hafez’s move was politically motivated and aimed to divide racial unity.

“We strongly condemn this irresponsible action. As an assemblyperson, Hafez should be more careful in issuing statements and play a role in uniting the people instead of sowing hatred.
“What is even more regrettable is that the false accusation has gone viral and is believed by a section of the community, triggering racist statements (uploaded) on social media,” it added.
Yesterday, Hafez was among those who falsely identified the suspect’s race in a viral Facebook post, triggering condemnation from DAP Youth and Amanah Youth. He has since deleted the post.
Earlier today, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director M Kumar dismissed claims that the suspect is Chinese and confirmed that the woman arrested in the incident is Malay. - Mkini
