Lie Now Apologise Later Public Angered Over Pas Manipulation Of Facts To Sow Racial Hatred

PLACE unsubstantiated social media posts, stir 3R (race, royalty, religion) sentiments at will without proper fact check, recant and apologise. Repeat ad nauseum.
That seems to be the modus operandi of PAS in the latest incident that will do little to appeal the party to non-Malay voters.
Following the viral incident of a stage invader “attacking” Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah during the state-level Merdeka Day celebration last Sunday (Aug 31), state PAS youth chief Mohd Hafez Sabri posted on social media that the alleged perpetrator was a Chinese woman.

The cops have since revealed that the suspect is a 41-year-old Malay female with a history of psychiatric treatment.
Hafez has since amended the post and has even apologised for being khilaf (oversight or having made an unintentional mistake). But it doesn’t stop there.
Interestingly though, the Manjoi state assemblyman has turned to playing the victim card and has instead filed a police report over the viralling of screenshots of his so-called erroneous original post.
As reported in KiniTV, Hafez who is also the national deputy youth chief for the Islamist party claimed that the subsequent posts were spread by irresponsible parties to discredit him. The narrative being painted was that he was stoking racial issues.

No sympathy for Hafez though as some commenters simply saw through the charade and slammed PAS for its culture of never-ending fitnah (slander).
One even slated PAS for never learning from mistakes, advising its spokespersons not to be those “who speak first, think later”.

Punish those who stir up 3R sentiments! Such tactics by Perikatan Nasional (PN) was a threat to societal harmony, claimed some presumably pro-Madani observers.

One commenter argued that this was worthwhile tactic so long as PAS id able to raise the ire of its hardcore supporters towards the Madani government, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and DAP.

Another commenter also argued that the PAS politician’s motive to stoke racial tensions was clear. Why bring ethnicity into the equation?

Reflecting the age of social media, some commenters pointed out that there seemed to be a race to be the “fastest hero” to react by posting on social media. Again, the accusation was one of “acting without thinking” which culminates in “ruining the image of Islam in the eyes of non-Muslims”.

Few points to note over this latest incident.
Firstly, it is indeed disingenuous of the PAS Youth deputy chief to claim that he is the victim in this case. That he is being manipulated by irresponsible parties to look like a bigot.
Fortunately, many are able to see through this charade and call him out for highlighting the suspect’s ethnicity in the first place.
Secondly, just when will the authorities take stern action against such flagrant stirring of racial sentiments?
