Not Chinese Cops Clarify Suspect In Perak Sultan S Case
Police have dismissed a viral Facebook post claiming that a Chinese woman was arrested after storming the stage towards Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah during the Perak state-level National Day celebration yesterday.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director M Kumar, in a statement last night, said the claim was false, and instead confirmed that the arrest involved a 41-year-old local Malay woman.
“The police give a stern warning that firm action without compromise will be taken against anyone who deliberately makes or spreads false statements that cause public fear and disturb social harmony in Malaysia,” he stressed.
According to Kumar, the suspect is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt, which carries up to seven years’ jail and a possible fine, and Section 511 of the Penal Code for attempting to commit an offence.
As for those who spread the false claim, Kumar said investigations are being carried out under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, which covers statements that could cause public fear or alarm, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which deals with misuse of network services.

Besides drug-related records, the Perak police said the woman also has a history of psychiatric treatment and is under the supervision of a specialist.
Yesterday, Perak PAS Youth chief Hafez Sabri was among those who had falsely identified the suspect.
Hafez, who is also Manjoi assemblyperson, has since deleted the post that triggered condemnations from DAP Youth and Amanah Youth, among others. - Mkini
