Pas Open To Reunion With Umno If Latter S Leadership Changes

PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin appeared to suggest that cooperation between PAS and Umno could be revived if Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is out of the picture.
He stated that the Islamist party has always kept its doors open to the possibility of working with Umno again to unite Muslims in the country.
Referring to their previous alliance under Muafakat Nasional, he said: “With Umno, we have already planned and established unity among the Muslims, including having a charter, but there were some issues. However, our doors have never been closed.
“We also know who rejected (the cooperation) before, but with the change in leadership within Umno, who knows, the door might open wide again, God willing.
“Anyway, we will see after the 16th general election,” he told Scoop.
The Umno and PAS flagsAsked if Bersatu, PAS’ partner in Perikatan Nasional, would oppose cooperating with Umno, Hashim said the matter could be resolved between the parties involved.
“That depends on them (Umno and Bersatu), but for PAS, we are open to this unity, we always pray for it.
“With the cases that are happening now, both domestically and internationally, it may open the way for leaders to think about what we need to prioritise for the unity of the ummah and Islam,” he added.
‘Grassroots want collaboration’
Previously, former PAS ulama council information chief Mohd Asri Mat Daud said he believes that Umno and the Islamist party can revive Muafakat Nasional before the next general election.
“The grassroots of Umno and PAS prefer to unite, and generally, if you go to the grassroots, I believe the leadership at the top also knows that they are asking for it to be revived,” he added.
Zahid, who collaborated with Pakatan Harapan to form the federal government following the recent general election, has consistently rejected the proposal to revive Muafakat Nasional, accusing PAS of insincerity. - Mkini
