Pas Man Cites Salman Rushdie Amanah Man Ropes In Taliban
PAS and Umno have repeatedly accused the Pakatan Harapan government of failing to be stern with regard to issues concerning Islam
The issue cropped up again last night during a talk on the campaign trail for the Semenyih by-election, where PAS central committee member Zuhdi Marzuki said more are becoming emboldened in insulting Prophet Muhammad
He claimed this is akin to the presence of "numerous Salman Rushdies" in the country, referring to the prize-winning British novelist
“We never imagined this in our lifetime. When Rushdie penned the book The Satanic Verses in 1999, the whole world was enraged
“Whether Shia or Sunni (Muslim sects), all opposed it, and Rushdie was afraid to leave the house
“We are puzzled that since Harapan came to power, there are many Rushdies in Malaysia,” he added
On Feb 19, police had detained a 68-year-old man over a Facebook post which was deemed as insulting to Prophet Muhammad and his wife Saidatina Aishah
Three days later, the man was released on police bail. This led Umno and PAS to criticise the move, and warn of a mammoth gathering if action is not taken against individuals who belittled Islam.
Meanwhile, Kelantan Amanah's legal adviser Hisham Fauzi urged all quarters to trust the authorities in this matter
“I implore PAS and Umno leaders not to make Malaysia a Taliban state. They must understand that the suspect has been released on police bail. It is not the end of the case
“It means, the person has been released for the time being and would be called again to face charges in court,” he added. - Mkini
