Pas Linked Ngo Calls For Donations To Help Flood Victims
A PAS-linked NGO working in disaster relief, Khidmat Malaysia, has launched a fundraiser in anticipation of the annual year-end monsoon floods.
Speaking to reporters in Parliament, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man assured that all of the NGO’s accounts are audited and open to public scrutiny.
He said the “Tabung Musa’adah” aimed to raise an initial RM500,000 and will focus on aiding East Coast states affected by floods.
“All of our accounts are audited. We are open. All expenses and collections are audited.
“We follow all the rules and there’s nothing hidden,” said the Kubang Kerian MP who launched the fundraiser together with Khidmat Malaysia chairperson and Pengkalan Chepa MP Ahmad Marzuk Shaary.
Tuan Ibrahim said this when asked about measures to restore public trust toward fundraisers by NGOs, following MACC’s action earlier today to freeze 41 bank accounts and over RM15 million in funds linked to Aman Palestin Bhd and several other companies involved in collecting funds for Palestinians in Gaza.
He said Khidmat Malaysia last year successfully raised and distributed RM1.2 million in donations, including through cooperation with other NGOs and the government’s National Disaster Management Agency.
“When we move as an NGO, the first thing we need to take care of is public trust. We do not want parties who take advantage of the misfortune of others.
“They collect funds but are not honest in the distribution. This erodes the public’s faith towards NGOs,” said Tuan Ibrahim.
Marzuk added that Khidmat Malaysia since its inception in 2013 has set up offices nationwide and enlisted over 19,000 volunteers, aside from assets used as part of relief efforts. - Mkini
