Pas Led State Assemblies Will Not Be Dissolved If Ge15 Held During Monsoon Season
Party vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the annual floods, on the heels of the northeast monsoon, would require huge allocations and spending to mitigate its adverse effects. - NSTP/NIK ABDULLAH NIK OMARKOTA BARU: Pas will not dissolve the state assemblies it leads in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah if the 15th general election is held during the monsoon season.
Party vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the annual floods, on the heels of the northeast monsoon, would require huge allocations and spending to mitigate its adverse effects.
"During the party's central meeting recently, we (Pas) decided not to dissolve the legislative assemblies of the three Pas-led states until March 2023, which is when the current term ends."
When met at his office today, Amar said he believed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob preferred to hold the national polls next year, but had been pressured to call for the election earlier by "problematic Umno leaders".
"There is no reason to hold the election earlier but (if it happens) I suspect it is due to vested political interests."
On the state's preparation to face the coming floods, Amar, who is also Kelantan deputy menteri besar, said all agencies involved were prepared.
"All the relevant agencies have been making the necessary preparations for the coming floods and a special committee has been formed to handle flood-related issues," he said.
Pas vice-president Datuk Idris Ahmad recently said the party's representatives in the federal government would suggest for GE15 not be held this year. - NST
