Pas Delegate Govt Should Take Over Rice Cooking Oil Industries Again
PAS MUKTAMAR | A PAS delegate today mooted that the government take over the business of supplying basic necessities such as rice and cooking oil.
PAS Ulama wing representative Fawwaz Mat Jan said that by taking over the industries, the government can increase its income and at the same time ease the rakyat's costs of living.
"I would suggest that... while we can approve this motion, it can be improved if we also look at the underlying cause of our country's (economic) problem.
"If we look at the country's financial situation or its income sources, mostly they come from taxes. If we want to provide a solution according to Islam, I want to propose that we return to the practice of nationalising basic necessities.
"A simple example is rice, which is the rakyat's staple food; this has to be nationalised again. Another item is cooking oil, which is being controlled by major private corporations.
"They are having a monopoly. So, to address this, cooking oil should also be nationalised again," he said.
Fawwaz was debating a motion on economy and costs of living proposed by the Batu PAS division.
Adding further, the PAS Ulama working committee member also suggested that the government manage the business of all natural resources in the country, including rare earth minerals.
"Because when the resources are under state control, the income can be channelled back to the rakyat.
"By doing this, the country does not need to impose so many taxes on the rakyat," Fawwaz said. -Mkini
