Shehbaz will be accompanied by Cabinet ministers, including deputy prime minister and foreign minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, during the official visit reciprocating Anwar’s visit to Pakistan in October 2024.
He will be accorded an official welcome at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya on Oct 6, followed by a bilateral meeting with Anwar.
“Both leaders are expected to take stock of Malaysia-Pakistan bilateral relations and explore further collaboration, particularly in trade and investment, halal industry, education, tourism, and defence,” Bernama quoted Wisma Putra as saying in a statement.
The two leaders are expected to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
They will witness the exchange of five memoranda of understanding in the fields of tourism, higher education, halal certification, combating and preventing corruption, and small and medium enterprises, as well as an exchange of notes in diplomat training.
Both prime ministers are also scheduled to take part in the Pakistan-Malaysia Business and Investment Conference.
Shehbaz will be conferred an honorary doctorate of philosophy in leadership and governance by International Islamic University Malaysia in recognition of his leadership, commitment to national development, service to the people, and promotion of Islamic values in governance.
“The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations and foster stronger cooperation in areas of mutual benefit,” said Wisma Putra.
Malaysia and Pakistan established diplomatic relations in 1957. The bilateral ties were elevated to a strategic partnership in March 2019.
