Bersatu’s Wan Saiful Wan Jan says the silence of the ‘Umno soleh’ leaders had allowed the ‘court cluster’ leaders to determine the direction of the party.PETALING JAYA: Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan says some Umno leaders have privately told him to stop his attacks on their party.
He said these leaders, whom he described as “Umno soleh” (“noble Umno”), had told him they were trying to bring the party back onto the right track and, therefore, he should stop attacking the party.
Acknowledging the presence of such leaders in Umno, Wan Saiful asked them to be fair as they had previously been “silent” in the party.
“The problem is that the silence of these ‘Umno soleh’ leaders has allowed the ‘court cluster’ leaders to determine the direction of Umno and attack others, thus hindering  Malay political unity,” he said in reference to Umno leaders hauled to court over various corruption charges.
“They have to be fair to us. Why are they asking others to stop attacking their party when supporters of the ‘court cluster’ are attacking us?
“Don’t just rebuke others.
“Rebuke your own people as well,” Wan Saiful said at the launch of the Perikatan Nasional election machinery at the Semerah constituency in Johor yesterday.
He added that Umno leaders who aspired for stronger political unity among the Malays should speak up now.
On Jan 22, Wan Saiful had accused Umno leaders from the “court cluster” of pushing for the Johor state elections as part of a ploy to stay in power and divert attention from their court cases.
“Perhaps the court cluster is getting increasingly desperate.
“I won’t be surprised if the Johor situation is repeated in other states. Such is the desperation of people who are power-hungry and afraid of going to prison.”
His accusation received swift condemnation from Umno leaders, notably party information chief Shahril Hamdan, who told him that the state elections had to be called to address the political instability caused by Bersatu. - FMT
