Court Cluster The Only Political Weapon Against Umno For Some Says Zahid

Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that as Umno president, he has a responsibility to restore the Barisan Nasional government.PETALING JAYA: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has hit back at those who claim that the “court cluster” of Umno leaders are trying to restore the Barisan Nasional (BN) to its previous position of power in order to divert attention from their court cases.
The “court cluster” refers to a group of Umno leaders who are either on trial or have been convicted over charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT), abuse of power and money laundering. It includes former prime minister Najib Razak and Zahid.
“The claim that I am trying to bring back the Umno-BN government because of the court cases is the only political weapon they still have,” he said in a Facebook post in what is believed to be a thinly veiled attack on Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan who made such remarks recently.
Wan Saiful said the decision to call for snap elections in Johor was because certain Umno leaders were desperate and it was the only way to escape punishment.

He added that it was unwise to hold elections when the country was still in the middle of a pandemic.
“Johor politics is stable. There is no reason at all to hold elections, except for the lust of some people in Umno,” he was reported to have said following the dissolution of the Johor state legislative assembly last Saturday.
Zahid explained that as the party president, he had a responsibility to restore the BN government.
“As the BN chairman and Umno president, I will never allow a party owned by the people and for the people to lose its identity,” he said. - FMT
