The information chiefs of 11 Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) divisions located in the southern part of Johor have proposed for the 15th General Election (GE15) to be held simultaneously with the upcoming Johor state polls. -NSTP file picKUALA LUMPUR: The information chiefs of 11 Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) divisions located in the southern part of Johor have proposed for the 15th General Election (GE15) to be held simultaneously with the upcoming Johor state polls.
By doing so, they said it will avoid wastage of tax payers' money.
"The action by Umno to dissolve the Johor State Legislative Assembly which will pave the way for the state election during a time when the people are still reeling from aftermath of the recent floods and impacts unleashed by the Covid-19 pandemic showed that the party does not care at all about the people," they said in a joint statement today.
The statement was jointly issued by the information chiefs of Bersatu divisions in Mersing, Johor Baru, Pulai, Iskandar Puteri, Pontian, Muar, Parit Sulong, Tanjung Piai, Kulai, Pasir Gudang and Kota Tinggi.
"We urged Umno to stop bullying component parties in Perikatan Nasional (PN) by holding the state election in Johor just because of power," the statement said.
They also condemned the action by two Bersatu leaders, who quit the party after the state assembly was dissolved.
They described that action by Mazlan Bujang and Datuk Mohd Izhar Ahmad as undignified and done without integrity.
"Their departure has helped Johor Bersatu to become more spirited to face the state election since there are no longer 'duri dalam daging' (thorn in the flesh) with the party."
Before the dissolution of the state assembly, Mazlan and Izhar were the Puteri Wangsa and Larkin state assemblymen respectively.
Last Thursday, Mazlan, who is also a state executive councillor, had announced that he alongside 22 committee members of the Tebrau Bersatu division were quitting the party.
Few days after that, Izhar followed in Mazlan's footsteps citing a loss of trust in Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The 11 information chiefs also endorsed the resolution reached between Bersatu and Pas after a two-day muzakarah to enter the upcoming Johor polls under the PN banner for the unity of "ummah". - NST
