No Training Held At Marang Mosque Only Prayer Stop Mmea
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) denied claims that its elite forces had conducted a training exercise at the Rusila Mosque in Marang, Terengganu, on Sept 19.
MMEA director-general Rosli Abdullah said the mosque was merely a location for trainees to perform their religious duties prior to accepting their next assignment.
"The mosque was informed in advance about the trainees' presence and there was no disturbance to the congregation or religious activities,” he said in a statement today.
Rosli was responding to Perikatan Nasional chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan, who earlier claimed that the MMEA had conducted an exercise at the mosque - an action he compared to the 1985 Memali incident, a tragedy that occurred after the police tried to arrest PAS leader Ibrahim Mahmood and his followers.
ADSThe incident, which happened in Kampung Baling, Kedah on Nov 19, 1985, led to the deaths of 18 people: Ibrahim, 13 villagers, and four security personnel.

Perikatan Nasional chief whip Takiyuddin HassanSpeaking in the Dewan Rakyat this afternoon, Takiyuddin claimed that a group of 10 to 15 individuals entered the Rusila Mosque in five vehicles without permission, saying this led to fear and anxiety among the congregation.
Rosli further condemned the allegations made by Pendang MP Awang Hashim, who asked if the training was part of a plan to kill PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, who was at the mosque at the time of the incident.
Rosli called the allegations baseless and had the potential to damage the image of the country's security forces and lower their morale.
"The MMEA has never and will never use houses of worship as locations for raids or operations.
"The training conducted at that time was only part of the tactical training syllabus of our special forces," he asserted.

MMEA director-general Rosli AbdullahHe explained that the training exercise was part of the survival, evasion, resistance and escape module conducted by the special task and rescue team.
Such training is important to build resilience, discipline, and wisdom of team members in interacting with the community when carrying out undercover missions, he said. - Mkini
