No Need To Display Road Tax Stickers On Private Vehicles Anymore Loke

Effective today, motor vehicle licences, also known as road tax stickers (LKM), are no longer required to be displayed on privately owned vehicles by Malaysians.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke told a press conference that as such, the enforcement of Section 20 of the Road Transport Act, which mandates that motor vehicle licences must be displayed on vehicles, will no longer be in effect.
The minister stated that this change will be implemented in stages, with the first phase affecting individual private vehicles, including motorcycles - owned by Malaysians.
This announcement is part of the Transport Ministry’s efforts to digitise the services of the Road Transport Department (RTD), specifically for motor vehicle licences and driving licences.
“I urge all drivers and vehicle owners to switch to digital platforms. With digitisation, crowds and long queues at the RTD counters will decrease and this will contribute to better productivity,” Loke (above) said.
Loke said that Malaysian private vehicle owners can register their motor vehicle licences and driving licences (LMM) at the JPJ public portal or MyJPJ mobile application.
However, he said that drivers and vehicle owners can still display their road tax stickers during the interim period of the digital transition.
Additionally, Loke also announced exemptions in the first phase of enforcement, where he listed out classes of motorists who will still be required to display their road tax and driver’s licences.
Learner’s permit holders, vocational licence holders, and foreigners who either have Malaysian driving licences or international driving permits will have to still carry their driving licenses.
As for road tax, the ‘must display’ rule applies to company vehicles, foreign-owned vehicles, as well as commercial vehicles, including public transportation.
Loke added that enforcement will be carried out against any individuals driving without valid licences in accordance with provisions under subsections 20(1), 90(1) and 26(1) of the Transport Act 1987. - Mkini
