Driving Licence Code Added To Myjpj App Registration For Security Loke

Transport Minister Anthony Loke has announced a new feature that would be added to the registration steps on the MyJPJ application as a security measure.
He said that new users would have to insert the unique codes from their driving licence when registering a new account in the application.
This, Loke added, would prevent anyone from making accounts with other people’s IC numbers.
“I have approved a suggestion from the Road Transport Department (RTD) to include a new feature in the app registration where the users must include the unique codes from their driving licence.
“There were concerns that anybody could take any IC number and make a new account in MyJPJ,” Loke said at the launch of Arts On The Move at the Pasar Seni MRT Station today.
Loke emphasised that this was a crucial step as, without the unique codes, the accounts would not be approved by the system.
He said those without licences can register directly at RTD branches.
Furthermore, Loke stated that those who have already registered their accounts prior no longer need to inscribe their unique codes again.
No decision on phasing out physical licences
Loke further elaborated on the digitisation of the Road Transport Department (RTD) that there has been no decision from the Transport Ministry to phase out physical driving licences.
He acknowledged that there were already people upset at the new transition with road tax stickers, saying he could only imagine how the public would react to any other digitisation.
“The reaction we (the ministry) expect is that not everyone will support this move as they could be from rural areas where internet connectivity is a problem.
“We don’t want to force people to digitise.
“For licences and road tax, we will take a step-by-step approach,” the minister said.
Additionally, he stated that his ministry and RTD will monitor the take-up rate of road tax digitisation for the next six months or the rest of the year.
“If the take-up rate has reached a comfortable level, then we can make a final decision to go fully digital,” Loke said.
On Feb 10, Loke announced that Malaysians no longer needed to display their motor vehicle licences on their vehicles as part of the RTD’s digitisation efforts.
However, the sticker must still be displayed on all commercial and foreign-owned vehicles, including public transportation.
Learner’s permit holders, vocational licence holders, and foreigners with Malaysian or international driving permits must also carry their physical licences. - Mkini
