Govt To Rope In Private Sector For Tvet Programme Anwar
The government will cooperate with the private sector in its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme to address the issue of talent mismatch.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said local companies will be selected for their expertise to help students meet the market’s needs.
He said through this public-private collaboration, TVET students will be trained at specific centres and earn a reasonable income.
“The TVET allocation according to last year’s budget was RM6.7 billion and it comprises various ministries such as Higher Education, Education, and Human Resources.
“It also involves 500 public skills training institutions (ILKA) and 250,000 trainees and students.
“Hence, I propose that immediate action is taken to address the talent mismatch issue, to ensure these children are trained and get jobs with a reasonable income,” he said in a press conference after today’s cabinet meeting.
Prime Minister Anwar IbrahimAnwar said among the proposed companies to be involved in the cooperation included Petronas, DRB-Hicom, and Sunway Group to train students throughout the country.
He added that a cabinet committee chaired by Deputy Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will identify the private companies to be involved in this programme.
“It is about identifying private companies that can partially assist the existing training institutes, in an effort to solve this issue (of talent mismatch),” he said.
Anwar said further details will be explained in the tabling of Budget 2023, set to take place on Feb 24.
In the tabling of Budget 2023 under the previous government, RM6.7 billion was allocated under seven key ministries for the implementation of various TVET initiatives.
Then finance minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the allocation included RM180 million for the Skills Development Fund Corporation to provide loans for 12,000 trainees under the Malaysian Skills Certification Programme. - Mkini
