Newspapers Run By Humans Who Make Errors

YOURSAY | ‘Just forgive and forget, as the mistake is unintentional.’
Flag blunder: Sin Chew's apology insufficient, Maszlee demands retribution
OrangePanther1466: If it’s an honest mistake, a stern warning should be issued. After say three such warnings, the paper risks suspension and/or a hefty fine. Newspapers are run by human beings who do make mistakes.
I am sure it was not intentional (as there is nothing to be gained from it) and the daily took immediate steps to rectify the mistake to the extent possible and apologise profusely.
Is former education minister Maszlee Malik angling for a PKR Central Committee post in its upcoming election? I’m just speculating.
JWKK: Did Sin Chew not apologise profusely on the front page of the paper, and correct it? And Maszlee is still baying for blood?
Yes, what Sin Chew did was inexcusably wrong, but surely it was a mistake. Can anyone say it was more than that, as Sin Chew has been a major business in the country and has no plans to move to another country?
If Maszlee could not understand that, then he is no longer an academic, let alone one with a doctorate.
I am fine with some kind of punishment, like a fine on the paper for a first offence. Or a one-month work suspension for the person who made the mistake.
Surely, this one-time mistake does not amount to a criminal trial and licence suspension. To go along with that is like using a hammer to kill a fly, and this will surely make the guilty party suspicious of the powers that be and the laws.
GalaxyM: Come on, the mistake could be just a human error, and Sin Chew Daily has immediately apologised.
There are more important things to do, like treating all citizens irrespective of race or religion fairly and equally.
Why, 68 years after Merdeka, do the people remain divided and polarised?
Is it necessary to blow up the tiny issue to the attention of all and sundry?
The superpower China’s leader is in the midst of visiting our country. Is it nice to irk the feelings of people from the Chinese diaspora when they are alerted to the news?
Gotcha: Maszlee, please bear in mind that no one is perfect. If everyone were to be perfect, then there wouldn’t be motor accidents on roads and many more.
You, too, have made mistakes in the past.
Beman: I didn’t catch that the crescent was missing in the headline picture until I read the article. It’s easy to overlook the mistake.
No millions of ringgits were diverted from the national coffers because of this. So, just forgive and forget, as the mistake is unintentional.
MarioT: Maszlee, if you really care for the country, you should be vocal about those who are selling this country to illegal immigrants.
This is more treacherous and a betrayal of the highest order. Penny-wise, pound-foolish. Don’t pretend not to see the gross corruption committed by those given positions to safeguard our security.
Don't use outdated laws against Sin Chew - groups
Wading in shallow end of gene pool: The newspaper’s internal process for validation and verification simply made a mistake. A review of the internal process and tightening of the process is probably necessary.
Let’s not make a national brouhaha over something as minor as this; there must be more important things to deal with in this country than an error on a flag.
GreenLion2218: These people don’t realise the pressure under which these publications work… trying to meet deadlines with one eye on the clock always.
And errors are not new in the publishing industry.
Usually, a correction and a simple apology the next day will do.
The paper has done that… in BIG BLOCK CAPITAL LETTERS… to boot.
It is more than enough.
Just accept it and move on. If not, I assume these noisy people have nothing better to do.
Freethinker: Just issue a compound and serious warning to them. If the mistakes are innocent, don’t make it as if it’s treason.
How nice if they are as valiant as this on matters of corruption.
Mosquitobrain: Maszlee, you made my day. A simple mistake like this should not happen to an experienced media outlet like Sin Chew Daily.
Reprimand with a stern warning and a fine, but not to the extent of revoking the licence or boycotting the paper. - Mkini
