Saravanan Calls On Hindus Not To Listen To Firdaus Wong Who Continues Attacks On Illegal Temples

IN Kuala Lumpur, MIC deputy president M Saravanan urged the Hindu community to ignore provocateurs like preachers Zamri Vinoth and Firdaus Wong, accused of questioning the legality of Hindu temples.
Speaking after a by-election event in Perak, Saravanan claimed these individuals were trying to outdo Malays in fervour, despite Malaysia’s history of racial harmony.
He addressed concerns over a temple near MIC headquarters, protested by Muslim groups for its proximity to a surau.
Saravanan emphasised the peaceful coexistence of races since independence, suspecting a hidden mastermind behind recent tensions and calling for patience as authorities handle the issue.
He praised the tolerance of Malays and Muslims, noting their harmonious coexistence, and called for trust in the government and the Prime Minister’s Office to handle such provocations appropriately.
“We know the Malays and Muslims are tolerant in this country,” he said.
Meanwhile, Firdaus Wong Wai Hung, an independent preacher, did not sit tight on his end, emphasising that claims of unauthorised places of worship being over 100 years old must be backed by valid documentation and proof of land ownership, not just occupation duration.
He cited a Melaka court case where the government reclaimed land despite long-term use.
Speaking on the issue of land encroachment, including a gazetted mosque site in Dengkil, Selangor, he noted the matter was peacefully resolved when the encroaching party agreed to vacate after authorities, including JAIS, intervened.
Firdaus urged religious bodies to prevent illegal constructions and called for strict penalties for encroachers, stressing legal resolutions over religious or racial sentiments.
He also refuted claims of anti-Hindu hatred on social media, following concerns raised by a foreign report about temple demolitions and the relocation of a 130-year-old Kuala Lumpur temple, which was settled with a new site provided by the government. — Focus Malaysia
