Authorities Urged To Act Sternly Against Mastura Norshah Who Mocked Pmx S Raya Takbir
MALA fides is defined by the Merriam-Webster online dictionary as “bad faith which purpose is to deceive or to defraud”.
This was the bone of contention over a video posted by social media influencer Mastura Norshah. In it, the audio of the Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s public Hari Raya takbir (declaration of faith by glorifying God) could be heard in the background.
However, it is contended in another video posted on TikTok by Abe Long (@abe.long) that the audio was “purposely slowed down to make it sound off tune and off key”, thus giving the impression that PMX was ill-equipped to deliver the takbir.
Moreover, Mastura could be seen pulling faces and grimacing, denoting that she found the delivery of the takbir to be excruciating.
The pro-Madani Abe Long went on to argue that this was not only offensive but also deceitful as the audio had been tampered with.
His sentiments were echoed on X by Mr.Nazril (@Nazril_Iznil) who urged the authorities to take stern action against Mastura Norshah under Section 223 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998.

It was contended that Mastura’s actions had gone too far and is an offence under Section 233 which is punishable with a fine of up to RM50,000 and a further RM1,000 daily penalty if the offender continues with his/her actions. There are also provisions for imprisonment up to a year.
Editor’s Note: Section 233 of the CMA 1998 and specifically its subsection (1)(a) criminalises the use of network facilities or services to transmit communications that are obscene, indecent, false, menacing or offensive with the intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass another person.
Many netizens also expressed disgust that a takbir Raya could be used in such a manner. Be it a VVIP or commoner, this was inappropriate content creation where religion is used to mock and belittle a person.

Another pointed out that PMX aside, it was huge sin to poke fun at sacred words and texts. Although the video has been deleted, he urged the authorities – in particular MCMC and JAKIM (Malaysian Islamic Development Department) – to take decisive action to stop such nonsense.

While the video – in addition to Mastura’s social media accounts have been taken down – the damage appears to have been done.
Hari Raya is supposed to be a time for reflection, forgiveness and reaching out to fellow Muslims. Instead, a takbir Raya was doctored with the sole intention of making PMX look bad. In short, mala fides.
