Netizen Shares Step By Step Tutorial For Seamless Thai Border Crossing By Car
ROAD trips can be daunting, not least when crossing international borders.
With many Malaysians regularly crossing into neighbouring Thailand, a post by X (formerly known as Twitter) user Efahanie (@efaperfume) on the correct immigration process has been greeted with much positivity.
The post outlined the relevant documents visitors are required, with the passport being the most obvious. Further instructions on getting the necessary insurance was also provided.
The poster also dropped a gentle reminder for motorists to fill up their tanks before crossing the border as fuel in Thailand is unsubsidised. She pointed out that the border towns of Napoh, Changlung and Bukit Kayu Hitam have plenty of petrol stations.
She further updated on the nominal payments outlining sums required for number of passengers per vehicle. A photocopy of the vehicle’s registration would also suffice she later posted.
The poster also provided some useful tips on road etiquette in Thailand, pointing out that parking facing the wrong way would result in a fine.
She also answered queries from netizens on a number of issues, such as procedure when vehicle is in spouse’s name.
Other netizens also chimed in with their own advice on this issue as well as insurance coverage.
With the post generating 1.2m views at the time of writing, it is reflective of the numbers that are visiting Thailand.
More needs to be done to get at least some of these travellers to consider local tourist destinations instead, especially at a time when the domestic hospitality industry is still struggling to find its feet post-pandemic.
At the very least, it is hoped that some helpful Thai national has put up a similar post to encourage a road trip into Malaysia.
Perhaps Tourism Malaysia should consider engaging Thai social media influencers for this very purpose? – Focus Malaysia
