N Sembilan Dap Youth Joins Call To End Ties With Akmal Over Hate Politics
A third DAP state youth wing has urged the party’s leadership to cut political ties with Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh, accusing him of perpetuating “hate politics” through his handling of the Jalur Gemilang issue.
In a statement, the Negeri Sembilan DAP Youth wing said Akmal’s actions in politicising the matter were excessive and deliberately framed to portray non-Malays as unpatriotic.
“Akmal’s actions not only create public anxiety but also instil fear among citizens to raise their own national flag. This is the outcome when patriotism is narrowed through the lens of hate politics that divides the people,” they said.
Following Penang and Kedah, the Negeri Sembilan DAP Youth wing further criticised Akmal for what it described as selective outrage, claiming he only targeted small traders while adopting a different approach when similar offences involved Umno Youth members, their allies, or PAS.
“Never once has he demanded prosecution within two days when it involves them,” they said.
The wing also accused Akmal of challenging the rule of law and disturbing public order, pointing to an incident where traders near a hardware shop were forced to shut early due to tensions sparked by his actions.
“Such behaviour not only goes beyond the limits of the law but also contradicts the norms of Malaysia’s multiracial society, which is based on harmony and mutual respect,” they said.
They further questioned whether Akmal was “so arrogant” as to equate himself with the entire Umno leadership.
“Is he placing himself on the same level as the Umno president, who alone has the legitimacy to determine the party’s direction?” they asked.
‘Take firm stance’
The wing concluded by calling on DAP and national DAP Youth leadership to take a firm stance by severing ties with “irresponsible politicians such as Akmal”, to ensure consistency in rejecting the politics of hate and division.

Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh during the rally in Penang on ThursdayThe calls from DAP Youth follow Akmal’s rally against a hardware store owner in Kepala Batas, Penang, on Friday, after the businessperson was caught on video hanging the national flag upside-down.
After the incident went viral on social media, store owner Pang Chin Tian claimed that he was measuring the length of an iron pole while hanging the national flag and did not notice that it was upside down.
Pang had since been investigated and arrested by the police, while Akmal was also investigated over the rally. - Mkini
