Muhyiddin To Meet Pm Soon Says Zuraida Must Go

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin is awaiting his meeting with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to discuss Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin’s position in the cabinet following her departure from the party.
This is as he views that the plantation industries and commodities minister should be replaced as she had acted in Bersatu’s capacity during her tenure.
“It is the prime minister’s right to choose a different candidate, and when that happens we will name a suitable candidate to replace Zuraida,” Muhyiddin told reporters after the 6th National Recovery Council (NRC) meeting today.
When asked whether Bersatu would appoint a new face, the former prime minister coyly suggested waiting until the announcement of the candidate.
Muhyiddin added that a date for the meeting has not been set yet.
For the record, both Ismail Sabri and Zuraida were on working trips to Japan and Turkey respectively two weeks ago.
On May 26, Zuraida announced her decision to leave Bersatu and join Parti Bangsa Malaysia, saying that she will discuss her resignation as a minister with the premier.
Zuraida also said she will continue to support Ismail Sabri’s administration.
Senior Minister Azmin AliMuhyiddin denies Azmin, Rashid defecting
In another development, Muhyiddin denied rumours that Senior Minister Azmin Ali and Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon will also defect from Bersatu.
“Why not say that everyone is leaving (Bersatu)? It would be a bigger story,” he told reporters.
The Pagoh MP later added that as far as he is aware, Azmin and Rashid had no intentions to leave the party.
“I am close to Azmin, he is a minister that came from Bersatu and we often talk, not just about going in and out (of the party) but of the future,” he said.
Batu Pahat MP Mohd Rashid HasnonMuhyiddin said he had met Rashid during a Hari Raya celebration and the Batu Pahat MP did not express intention to leave the party.
He alluded that the rumours were baseless, questioning why attacks were being directed at Bersatu.
“Why do people target and give attention to Bersatu? We are just a small party,” he added. - Mkini
