Mahathir Protected Muhyiddin From Being Charged Says Umno Man

Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin were part of the Pakatan Harapan government at the time when the latter is alleged to have received payments from Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd.PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Razlan Rafii has accused former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad of selective prosecution when he was prime minister following reports that Muhyiddin Yassin had also received funds from Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd (UKSB).
“It’s now proven that Mahathir let Muhyiddin off the hook from being charged because he is an ally. He’s not looking for justice, he just wants vengeance (against Umno),” Razlan said in a statement.
He said that Muhyiddin should face the same charges as Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, or at least must answer in court to the allegations.
He added that Mahathir, the then prime minister, would have known that Muhyiddin had received the money from UKSB and former attorney-general Tommy Thomas too, would have been privy to the case materials and knew who was involved.

Razlan Rafii.“While Zahid must defend himself in court and face public ridicule, Muhyiddin is given VIP treatment and only needs to explain himself to the media,” he added.
This came after former UKSB administrative manager David Tan told the High Court in Zahid’s corruption trial yesterday that Muhyiddin and Shafie Apdal were among government leaders who also received funds from the company.
Tan said the former prime minister received RM1.3 million between June and August 2018.
At the material time, Muhyiddin was home minister in the Pakatan Harapan federal government while Shafie was the Sabah chief minister.
UKSB was the firm that handled the foreign visa system, or VLN, for Chinese tourists. They were appointed by the government in 2016.
Zahid is facing 33 charges of receiving bribes amounting to S$13.56 million (RM42 million) from UKSB as an inducement for himself in his capacity as a civil servant and the then home minister to extend the contract of the company as the operator of the One-Stop Centre (OSC) in China and the foreign visa system, as well as to maintain an agreement to supply foreign visa system equipment to the same company by the home ministry. - FMT
