Muda Planning Anti Zahid Protest With Cso Undecided On Pn S Rally

Muda is planning a rally with civil society organisations (CSOs) soon to protest the withdrawal of corruption charges against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Party secretary-general Amir Hariri Abd Hadi Amir said Muda and PSM - in submitting a memorandum to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) this morning - reiterated their previous demands.
They urged Zahid to step down from his post until his Yayasan Akalbudi case is resolved.
If their demands were not met within five working days or before Sept 18, he said Muda will not hesitate to take to the streets in the spirit of democracy to raise the voice of Malaysians’ disappointment.
He divulged that Muda does not have any plans, at the moment, to join the rally organised by PN Youth this Saturday (Sept 16) in front of Sogo in Kuala Lumpur to protest Zahid's discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) of his 47 criminal charges.
“We are committed to our movement with PSM and CSOs. On Sept 16, we are considering organising other things like forums (to raise awareness about Zahid’s DNAA), but subject to discussion.
“We have been in talks with concerned individuals and influential people including PSM and will hold a few more discussions with CSOs to discuss this matter.
“We will give the government some time to evaluate our demands,” he told Malaysiakini today.

Meanwhile, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman - who quit the government bloc in Parliament yesterday - revealed he was only informed about PN Youth’s rally this morning.
He added that he was not able to comment on whether his party would be attending the protest.
Elaborating on the matter, Syed Saddiq told Malaysiakini that the matter will have to be discussed within Muda as it also involved a different party.
“But our commitment is… when it comes to fighting corruption, we will fight it because we don’t want to normalise corruption processes.
“The normalisation of corruption has happened and it will continue, so we must put a stop to this,” he told Malaysiakini when met at the Parliament today.

“The road ahead will be long and lonely. We want to close ranks with PSM and other political parties to form the third force.
“We want to show that we want to build Malaysia as a developed country, promote multi-ethnic politics, and ensure that the reform agenda is not halted because of betrayal of principles.
“We want to focus on building that base, that’s our priority,” he said.
Muda’s decision to pull support from the government has left Putrajaya one seat short of a two-thirds majority - in protest against prosecutors withdrawing corruption charges against Zahid.
However, Muda will support the government when reform bills are tabled in the Dewan Rakyat and need two-thirds support to pass. - Mkini
