Agc S Cogent Reasons Raise More Questions On Zahid S Dnaa Muda

Muda is not satisfied with the Attorney-General's Chambers' explanation yesterday that said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) because the court found reasons listed by the prosecution were "cogent".
Muda central executive committee member Nurainie Haziqah Shafi’i described the statement as having raised even more questions rather than clearing the air.
Demanding AGC to be more transparent, she questioned the department's logic behind the decision especially after the prosecution has managed to establish a prima facie case against Zahid in the criminal trial.
"...if the reasons presented by the prosecution (to request for DNAA) were described as solid or 'cogent', are they saying the case presented by previous deputy public prosecutor Raja Rozela Raja Toran was defective, unconvincing, and weak?
"Are they saying that Raja Rozela and the AGC had failed in their duty, especially after they had managed to establish prima facie?" she said in a statement this morning.
‘Take full responsibility’
Nurainie (above) also called on the AGC to take full responsibility for the DNAA instead of blaming the court for granting it.
She said the power to charge a suspect is in the hands of the prosecution, and the court had discharged Zahid from the 47 criminal charges based on the prosecution's request for DNAA.

"The country's justice system will be affected by this case because it involves the deputy prime minister and Muda will not keep quiet," she said.
The AGC's move to withdraw Zahid's charges on Monday led to the Kuala Lumpur High Court granting the Umno president a DNAA in the case involving Yayasan Akalbudi.
DNAA opens the possibility of Zahid being recharged again if prosecutors wish to revisit the matter.
The AGC's decision had courted flak, with many politicians and activists demanding an explanation.
Following this, the AGC had yesterday issued a brief statement saying that the withdrawal of 47 corruption charges was based on cogent reasons. - Mkini
