Over 300 employees from 24 Financial institutions participate in one of sectors biggest tournaments

Over 300 participants from 24 financial institutions recently competed in CTOS Inter-Financial Institutions Badminton Championship 2022, one of the sector’s largest annual local badminton tournaments.
The CTOS Inter-Financial Institutions Badminton Championship 2022 saw the nation’s leading financial institutions send their best shuttlers to demonstrate their skills and to foster stronger relationships within Malaysia’s financial sector while promoting healthy work-life balance. The recently concluded championship held at Sports Arena Puchong saw Maybank emerging as the final champion, carrying off the Premier Cup Challenge Trophy and a cash prize of RM5,000. This is one of the financial sector’s largest annual local badminton tournaments which saw 24 teams competing this year, double the number which participated in the inaugural championship in 2017.

The fourth CTOS Inter-Financial Institutions Badminton Championship, which took place on 1st and 2nd October 2022, was officiated by Eric Chin, CEO of CTOS Data Systems Sdn Bhd. In his opening address Chin commented, “As the leading credit reporting agency in Malaysia, our mission is to help empower individuals and businesses to get access to credit, enabling them to have a better future. We would also like to foster stronger public-private partnerships within Malaysia’s financial sector. Through this badminton championship, we hope to inspire our fellow financial institutions to create more role models from the corporate level and get them involved in sports to promote a healthy work life balance in society. This way, we can not only do our bit to maintain the country’s financial health, but physical health as well.”

As champions of the CTOS Inter-Financial Institutions Badminton Championship 2022, Maybank took the Premier Cup Challenge Trophy from previous winner Alliance Bank along with a cash prize of RM5,000.
In support of the tournament’s goals for the sector and society, Dato’ Jack Koh, founder and CEO of The Purple League was present alongside badminton pros Brice Leverdez and Pai Yu Po, currently playing in the Purple League Championship, who dropped by to encourage and inspire the participants. In total, the two-day event welcomed more than 300 participants.

The Bank Negara Malaysia team was 3rd runner-up of the Premier Cup at the recently held CTOS Inter-Financial Institutions Badminton Championship 2022 and won a cash prize of RM1,000.
Each team competed in Men’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, Men’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Men’s Veteran Doubles. The first and second ranked teams in the group stage were promoted to the Premier Cup whereas the remaining teams continued to compete in the Plate Cup.

Starting the final clash off, Maybank managed to trump CIMB in Mixed Doubles with Vincent Phuah and Cassie Choong chalking up wins against Muhammad Firdaus Zainudin and Linitha A/P Sambenthan (21-5, 21-14). CIMB came back in the Men’s Doubles event with Chan Junn Lym and Lee Jie Jin beating Mohd Shahruddin Bin Mukalim and Jimmy Tan from Maybank (21-12 21-12). Representing Maybank in the Men’s Veteran Doubles event, Wong Thien Mun and Yap Kim Heng emerged victorious against CIMB’s Mohd Azhany Bin Roslan and Zulkeflee Bin Che Mohamad (21-18, 21-14). In the Women’s Doubles, Maybank’s Natrah Binti Mazli and Norhasikin Binti Md Amin again triumphed against CIMB’s Nooraziah Binti Nordin and Yap Wei Yin (21-7, 21-7), which cemented Maybank’s place on top of the CTOS Inter-Financial Institutions Badminton Championship 2022.

CIMB was 1st runner-up at the recently held CTOS Inter-Financial Institutions Badminton Championship 2022 and the team won a cash prize of RM3,000.
Coming in at second place, CIMB took home a cash prize of RM3,000. In third place and fourth place respectively, the Ministry of Finance and Bank Negara Malaysia teams took home cash prizes of RM2,000 and RM1,000. In the Plate Cup, Bank Muamalat overcame HSBC to take the title and the cash prize of RM800 while the HSBC team took home a prize of RM500.

Teams that participated in this year’s Inter-Financial Institutions Badminton Championship were, AEON Credit, Agro Bank, Alliance Bank, Allianz Malaysia, Bangkok Bank, Bank Islam, Bank Muamalat, Bank Rakyat, BNM, Bursa, CIMB, Citibank, Co-op Bank Pertama, CTOS, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, KFH, Lonpac Insurance Berhad, Maybank, MBSB, MOF, SCB, Tune Protect and UOB.
