Lawyer What S The Status Of Yusoff S Police Report Against Anwar Farhash
The legal team for Yusoff Rawther is seeking updates from the authorities regarding a police report lodged on Sept 12 last year against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his former aide, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak.
This is over Yusoff’s arrest on drug-related allegations at that time.
Lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali, in his letter to Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail sent yesterday, emphasised that the police have a duty to investigate the reports lodged, and that failure to do so would prejudice Yusoff’s rights.
“(So) we wanted to know if there is any investigation paper opened following the reports, and have Anwar and Farhash been summoned to give their statements?
“What is the latest update of the investigation (into the report), and we wanted an explanation if there is none,” said Rafique.
He also provided a copy of the full grounds of the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s judgment that acquitted Yusoff of drug charges to the then inspector-general of police, Razarudin Husain, following the latter’s statement on June 13 saying that the police were waiting for it.

Anwar Ibrahim’s former aide Yusoff Rawther“The judge had said (when acquitting Yusoff) that our client’s version of facts, where he claimed to have been framed, contains sufficient information to form an alcontara notice and that it is the police’s duty to investigate Yusoff’s version of facts,” added the lawyer.
An alcontara notice is information given to the authorities in support of the accused’s version of facts to prompt further investigation into their claims.
Yusoff’s acquittal
The 32-year-old former research assistant to Anwar was initially charged on Oct 9 last year, when he was accused of trafficking 350g of cannabis found in his vehicle and possessing two fake guns.
He was taken into police custody on Sept 6 and denied bail until judge Jamil Hussain acquitted him on June 12 this year.
The judge had ruled that the prosecution could not prove Yusoff had custody or knowledge of the drugs and fake guns, which would make it unsafe to order him to defend himself against the charges, which led to his acquittal.
The judge also said that Yusoff’s right to a fair trial was prejudiced when the authorities had failed to investigate his police report lodged after his arrest, where he claimed to have been a victim framed by Anwar and Farhash in this case. - Mkini
