Ex Pas Man Says Political Plot Between Zahid Anwar Caused The Downfall Of Mn

FORMER PAS leader Dr Mohd Zuhdi Marsuki said the collapse of Muafakat Nasional (MN) was not PAS’ fault but due to the close ties between UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which eventually led to the formation of the unity government.
He rejected UMNO secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki’s claim that PAS betrayed UMNO by secretly backing Perikatan Nasional (PN).
“MN collapsed not because of PAS’ mistakes, but because of the political plot between Anwar and Zahid which ultimately led to the formation of today’s unity government,” he said in a statement on Facebook on Friday (Sept 19).
Zuhdi accused UMNO’s Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi of reviving the MN collapse narrative by blaming PAS for betrayal and secretly backing PN but insisted the real cause was Zahid’s alliance with Anwar.
“Clearly, he is trying to convince the public of his version of MN’s downfall,” he added.
Zuhdi argued the real ‘betrayal’ was Zahid’s deal with Anwar, proven by statutory declarations from Barisan Nasional MPs and leaked audio recordings.
He noted PAS did not attack UMNO openly despite feeling betrayed. Reflecting on the past decade, he said PAS had formed three coalitions – Gagasan Sejahtera, MN and PN – with two already defunct and one weakening.
He added Zahid and Anwar’s long-standing relationship influenced UMNO’s direction and ultimately ended MN.
