Kula Vows To Fight On For Indira Zaid Says We Have Lost
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) M Kulasegaran has vowed to continue fighting for M Indira Gandhi regardless of the upcoming hurdles.
This follows Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail’s no-show outside Bukit Aman yesterday, where Indira and supporters had gathered to hand him her daughter’s teddy bear, in a symbolic gesture demanding that Prasana Diksa be returned to her mother.
The group had waited for nearly four hours and only left after Kulasegaran assured them that he would make efforts to arrange a meeting with the IGP at a later date.
The Ipoh Barat MP told Malaysiakini today that he would battle on for Indira to be reunited with her daughter, who was taken away by Indira’s ex-husband 16 years ago, even if the meeting does not materialise.
“Let’s continue (the fight). I'm the lawyer who started it in 2009. I feel very strongly about it, and I think there will be a finality to this matter.
“I am still communicating with the IGP, and then I will come back (with an answer),” he said.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) M KulasegaranWhen questioned if there was a possibility that he would be meeting the IGP without Indira’s involvement, Kulasegaran explained that it was too early to tell.
“I don’t know yet, I do not know what the arrangement will be. It is still too speculative at this stage. But hopefully (we are able to arrange the meeting) within the next two or three weeks,” he added.
Zaid less optimistic
While Kulasegaran refused to give up, former law minister Zaid Ibrahim, however, described yesterday’s events as a failure of justice.
“Indira, I have been following and supporting your case since 2009, and I regret to inform you that we have lost,” he said in a post on X last night.
“This country is not the home where justice resides. It is a place where the pretenders reign. Only a government that believes in justice can find the solution, but we don’t have such a government,” he added.

Ex-minister Zaid Ibrahim (centre) giving a speech during the gathering before the solidarity march yesterday morningZaid had also been present at the start of the gathering outside Sogo yesterday - along with Kulasegaran, lawyer S Ambiga, and activist Marina Mahathir - where he delivered a brief speech expressing similar scepticism towards the justice system.
“This problem is not going to be solved today or any time soon. Because of the issue of mother and daughter, the issue of family problems are not seen like that in this country.
“They are not seen as a custom issue, they are seen as a religious issue. Indira’s case is not going to be the last. There are going to be more,” he told the more than 200 participants.

Protesters marched to Bukit Aman from Sogo yesterday, with M Indira Gandhi pushing her daughter Prasana Diksa’s teddy bear in a pramZaid had also called upon Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the law minister and religious affairs minister to establish a “new system for justice,” for interfaith separations and custodial battles.
“If you cannot solve the grief of a mother after 16 years, then come on… I hope the prime minister calls upon these two ministers. If they are useless, get other ministers. But if the government cannot solve this problem, then you should step down,” he said. - Mkini
