Its chief Mustapha Sakmud says ensuring Sabah’s revenue is used for the state’s development and its people’s well-being is the main priority.
Sabah PKR chief Mustapha Sakmud said the state chapter welcomes Putrajaya’s decision to immediately start discussions on the revenue mechanism after the election on Nov 29.PETALING JAYA: Sabah PKR has called for negotiations between the federal and Sabah governments on the state’s 40% revenue entitlement to be done sincerely, with “no room for political games”
In a Facebook post tonight, Sabah PKR chief Mustapha Sakmud welcomed the federal government’s decision to respect the High Court ruling on the entitlement, and said ensuring Sabah’s revenue is used for the state’s development and its people’s well-being remains the priority.
“(The decision) ends a long chapter of uncertainty, and creates a new era for a more mature, respectful federal-Sabah relationship based on principles of justice and sharing of national revenue,” he said.
The Sepanggar MP also said Sabah PKR welcomes Putrajaya’s decision to immediately engage the state government in discussions on the revenue mechanism after the state election on Nov 29.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) said the decision came after a special Cabinet meeting held today to discuss the Kota Kinabalu High Court’s Oct 17 ruling, which followed a judicial review filed by the Sabah Law Society (SLS) against the federal government.
Last month, the Kota Kinabalu High Court ruled that Putrajaya acted unlawfully by failing to honour Sabah’s 40% share of federal revenue for nearly five decades.
Earlier, Sabah caretaker chief minister Hajiji Noor also thanked the federal government for its decision, and assured that the state government remains ready to engage constructively with Putrajaya to implement the court’s directive to review and finalise the agreement.
He also called on the public to continue supporting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.
Separately, Sabah DAP also said it would continue to advocate for the full and transparent implementation of the 40% revenue entitlement.
Sabah DAP chief Phoong Jin Zhe said the chapter had actively supported SLS throughout its legal pursuit of the state revenue entitlement by attending hearings and showing solidarity.
“We will continue to ensure that Sabah receives its fair share of revenue in accordance with the Federal Constitution and the Malaysia Agreement 1963,” he said. - FMT
