Kerajaan Gagal Flash Mob Johor Harapan Offers Arrested Youths Free Legal Aid

Johor Pakatan Harapan has offered free legal aid to those implicated in the burning flares in front of a “Kerajaan Gagal” (Failed Government) banner.
Batu Pahat police previously arrested 20 youths, including teenagers, over the May 13 incident. Their remand is scheduled to expire tomorrow.
In a statement today, the state opposition front said it viewed the incident as a “manifestation” of the rakyat’s worries over the Perikatan Nasional government's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic and other issues.
After paying a visit to the families of some of the arrested youths, it agreed to help them.
“Johor Harapan will offer pro bono legal services to those accused of being involved in the Parit Raja incident to help them through this difficult time,” it said.
It also urged the government to reconvene Parliament and the state assemblies so that matters of public concern could be discussed.
The statement was jointly issued by Johor Harapan and Amanah chief Aminolhuda Hassan, Johor PKR chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh and Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong.
In the wee hours of the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, a group of youths had blocked a section of the Jalan Batu Pahat-Kluang trunk road, lit flares and burned firecrackers.
They also held up the banner saying “Kerajaan Gagal".
A video of the incident has since been widely viewed and shared.
Those detained are being investigated under Section 144 (for possessing weapons or missiles at unlawful assemblies), Section 268 (public nuisance) and Section 505(b) (statements conducing to public mischief with intent to cause or likely to cause fear or alarm of the public) of the Penal Code.
They are also being probed under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 (penalty for making or possessing explosives under suspicious circumstances), Section 17(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (disposal of the dead) and Section 48 of the Road Transport Act 1987 (obstruction by vehicle on road).
The hashtag #KerajaanGagal began trending on social media last month targeting Putrajaya over its perceived failure to contain the Covid-19 pandemic and other issues. - Mkini
