3 Families Take Up Legal Aid Offer After Kerajaan Gagal Rally

Thirteen of the 20 people arrested over the protest have been released on police bail.JOHOR BAHRU: Three families have come forward to get free legal aid from Johor Umno Youth after a group of youths were arrested over a recent anti-government protest in the state.
Johor Umno Youth chief Mohd Hairi Md Shah said today the three families gave their details to the Johor Umno Youth Bar secretariat.
“Out of the 20 people arrested, 13 have been released on police bail while the remaining seven have been detained. Of that number, three families have come forward to use our legal services,” he said.
“At the same time, as a Johor Umno Youth representative, I advise all young people to think before acting and making wrong decisions.
“Johor Umno Youth would like to remind everyone that every decision made by the court is absolute and must be accepted by all parties with an open heart and mind.”
Johor Umno Youth said yesterday it would provide free legal services to a group of youths who were detained for taking part in the “Kerajaan gagal” (government has failed) rally at Batu Pahat.
The wing’s vice-chief, Mohd Fared Khalid, previously said there was no hidden agenda in the offer, stressing that Johor Umno Youth did not want its offer of legal aid to be misconstrued as support for the action of the youths.
Last Thursday, a video clip of a street protest at Parit Raja, near Batu Pahat, was posted online and quickly went viral on social media.
It showed a group of motorists and motorcyclists blocking a busy intersection, burning flares and putting up a banner with the words “Kerajaan gagal” on it. - FMT
