Kelantan Burger Seller Two Others To Pay Rm2 000 Fine Say Sources

Mohd Azizi (left), who sells colek at night during the fasting month in front of his house, was slapped with a RM50,000 fine for flouting the MCO and operating beyond the 10pm limit on April 26. - NSTP / NOR FAZLINA ABDUL RAHIM.KOTA BARU: A burger seller and two others slapped with RM50,000 compounds for flouting the Movement Control Order's standard operating procedures, may be offered to pay just RM2,000 fine each.
Sources said the amount was the maximum fine imposed for the guidelines under Act 342 Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases 1988.
"They will be offered the maximum amount by the Health Department according to the guidelines, similar to those who committed same offence for flouting the SOPs previously.
"The offenders were also slapped with high compounds recently but were later required to pay RM2,000," the sources said.
The sources said the state authorities especially the police and Health Department hoped the reduction of the RM50,000 compound would solve all the issues highlighted recently.
The matter involving several individuals in the state including burger and colek sellers, went viral after one of them uploaded his plight on Facebook.
The two sellers as well as a sundry shop owner were all slapped with the compound for flouting the MCO SOPs by operating beyond permitted hours.
Following this, the state police in a statement today said the state Health Department had agreed to reduce the compound but did not mention the figure.
Meanwhile, colek seller Mohd Azizi Mohd Nor, 42, said he has yet to be informed about the reduction.
"I have yet to be informed about this but if it is true, I am so happy and relieved that finally my nightmare has ended.
"However, I can only afford to pay RM1,000 of the fine as I have to support my children who are still studying as well as three nieces and nephews.
"I hope the authorities can consider further reduction," said the father of five who operates a stall in Kampung Chekok Tengah.
