Is The Huge Foreign Worker Presence In Cameron Highlands Legit Are Enforcement Agencies Aware
A NETIZEN has voiced her concern about the influx of foreign workers in Cameron Highlands with a short video purporting to show the popular shopping arcade Medan Agro being inundated with foreign traders.
The clip uploaded by TikToker Edzry (@edzry) also shows a swanky cafe in Cameron Highlands that seems to be fully manned by Bangladeshi workers. The poster asks if these workers had valid work permits or were medically fit to work in FnB (food & beverage) premises.

“Have they undergone the necessary health screening and take the required jabs,” wondered Edzry.
The foreigner influx issue seems to be a hot topic for this poster who has uploaded numerous videos highlighting the matter as this runs parallel with her belief that immigrant workers are messing with the rice bowl of locals.
The video has generated a lot of feedback with quite a few commenters lamenting how the situation could deteriorate to this stage.
With one issuing a rallying call for visitors to Cameron Highlands to support local traders, contending that the presence of foreign traders have heavily impacted locals’ ability to earn a living.
Another echoed a similar sentiment saying the power is with the buyer, hence urging locals to boycott these foreign traders.
Of course, this was quickly seized upon by some to use as a stick to beat the Madani government. But it was quickly countered that the situation was similar under previous administrations.
Some asked what the enforcement agencies were doing about the situation with many insinuating that under table money was involved.
One netizen rightly suggested that the situation exits because foreign workers are cheap labour.
One netizen did ask the pertinent question of who would do the work if there were no foreign workers?
The issue of the overwhelming foreign worker presence is a difficult and complex issue. The nation’s economy is built on the blood, sweat and tears of cheap foreign labour.
However, it does not negate the very real fear that there are too many undocumented foreigners on these shores. And how are they able to become traders with permits?
As many netizens opined, the root cause is obvious.
