(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Umno has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to confirm the authenticity of a leaked document purportedly of its investigation papers into Court of Appeal judge Nazlan Ghazali.
In a statement, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan also urged the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to state if it will be taking further action following the MACC probe.
Ahmad pointed out that, on May 21, the MACC said it had concluded its probe into the appellate judge and submitted its investigation papers to the AGC.
Earlier today, UK-based blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin uploaded documents purportedly prepared by MACC. The documents appear to suggest that MACC had concluded its investigation into Nazlan and submitted its report to the AGC.

Ahmad’s statement appeared to suggest some connection between the probe’s findings and the alleged conflict of interest raised by Najib Razak in his failed application to the Federal Court to adduce new evidence in his SRC International appeal.
“The integrity of our institutions have to be protected and Umno hopes that the MACC and AGC will clarify this matter to the people soon,” he said.
On Tuesday, the Federal Court dismissed Najib’s application to adduce fresh evidence to prove that Nazlan was under a serious conflict of interest when presiding over the SRC trial two years ago.
Nazlan, who was promoted to the Court of Appeal in February, was the judge who presided over Najib’s SRC trial and sentenced the former prime minister to 12 years’ jail and a RM210 million fine.
In his application, Najib said Nazlan ought to have recused himself from presiding over the trial as he was involved in deliberations and decision-making in the lead up to the formation of SRC as a 1MDB subsidiary and the grant of loan and credit facilities for the benefit of SRC and 1MDB.
Nazlan was Maybank’s group general counsel and company secretary at the time.
Delivering the court’s judgment, Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat said the judges could not see how the proposed additional evidence with regards to Nazlan’s previous employment with Maybank was related to the abuse of power charge against Najib under Section 23 of the MACC Act.
Tengku Maimun said the court also observed that there was nothing to suggest that Nazlan made a finding of guilt against Najib based on anything else except the evidence presented during the trial in 2019.
The other judges who heard the former prime minister’s bid were Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim and Federal Court judges Nallini Pathmanathan, Mary Lim and Zabidin Mohd Diah. - FMT
