In Open Letter Muda Claims To Be Sidelined By Pm Harapan
Muda has refuted DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang's claims that it had made a "hasty" decision not to cooperate with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's unity government.
In a statement, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had ignored three letters from the party calling for a "simple meeting".
"Not only were we left hanging but also got ridiculed when the Harapan secretary-general responded by saying that he had no time to read our letters.
"This was despite the fact that his office initially agreed to a date beforehand but cancelled once again at the last minute," said Syed Saddiq (above).
The former minister said he also tried reaching out to Anwar and his officers several times, to no avail.
Lim Kit Siang"We weren't asking for luxurious GLC posts like many in the government today. We weren't asking for contracts.
"We merely wanted a meeting so that we can propose a way forward to build a truly multi-racial, multi-religious, moderate and reform-centred Malaysia.
"You want reforms, Tan Sri? Muda wants them too," said Syed Saddiq.
Yesterday, Lim said Muda should not be overhasty and should cooperate with Anwar's unity government in the upcoming six state elections to ensure that reform efforts can continue.
This came amidst Muda's decision to field candidates in the upcoming elections, instead of allying with Harapan and BN.
However, Syed Saddiq said Anwar's government was not exhibiting reforms, thereby, necessitating Muda to take on a bigger check and balance role.
He said GLC positions were still being used as a political reward and there were no equal allocations for MPs.
Prime Minister Anwar IbrahimThe Muar MP added that the government was also not instituting a term limit for the prime minister and that there is no separation of the prime minister's portfolio and that of the finance minister.
Major monopolies and concessions, he noted, were still being extended while oppressive laws are being maintained.
"The list of false promises is never-ending," Syed Saddiq said. - Mkini
